Hoja Verde means “green leaf” and this refers to its start in 1997 as a rose grower. The cooperative family business produces since 2009 also chocolate, the cocoa comes from asociación Aproca from the province of Esmeraldas in northern Ecuador. This cooperative has four hundred families as members. The recipe for the chocolate is from Georg Bernardini.
[toggle title=”Green label”]In 2011 a separate branch Hoja Verde Gourmet was established where good food are bundled (chocolate, single origin coffee). Hoja Verde Gourmet gives social responsibility a high priority: job creation for the local population with good working conditions and social benefits. And taking into account the environment and the existing nature Cacao trees grow between / among the tropical plants and trees, so there is a natural balance. This is in the long term better for both farmers and the environment. Chocolate is made from 100% certified organic nacional cocoa; the renowned fine r flavor beans from Ecuador. The first Hoja Verde chocolate was of inferior quality. In 2013 the company hired the German chocolate connoisseur Georg Bernardini to develop an improved recipe. And it worked out very well![/toggle]
