Krakakoa is completely Indonesian, from the farmer to the bar. Founded in 2013 by Sabrina Mustopo, together with Simon Wright, it is one of the first bean to bar chocolate makers in the country.
Indonesia is the third largest cocoa producer in the world. But the small cocoa farmers do not earn much. Krakakoa has eliminated the middleman and works directly with the farmers. Farmers are first trained and Krakakoa helps them where needed. This way the quality and production raise and are rewarded with premiums up to 200% of the prevailing market price. This means:
