Tree to bar chocolate from India
In Tamil Nadu, southeastern India, is the Regal plantation of the two brothers-in-law Karthikeyan Palasisamy and Harish Manoj Kumar and their spouses. The Kumar family has been growing cocoa since around 2005. In 2015 they started making chocolate from their own beans. Soklet is the chocolate brand of Regal, the first and only tree-to-bar chocolate of India. The plantation lies at the foot of the Anamalai hills, near the Indira Ghandi wild life reserve. A beautiful idyllic area and one applies the principles of permaculture.
In 2017 they received the Cocoa of Excellence Award, awarded by, among others, Biodiversity International. That is something very special!
