From the beginning, Beyond Good (Madécasse) always has been about Madagascar. But they stretched their legs into Uganda. The cocoa from Uganda is distinct and pairs well with many flavors.

Located in the far western region of Uganda, Bundibugyo is a small town renown for its cocoa production. That’s where the cocoa comes from. It’s settled near the Rwenzori Mountains, also known as the Mountains of the Moon, which supports incredibly unique and diverse vegetation and flora, legendary for being the source of the Nile River.

This is a project started in 2018. In the interim, Beyond Good established farmer-level transparency with their excellent co-manufacturer ICAM (Italy) and mapped out a plan to get our supply chain in Uganda where we want it to be. The goal is to commission a chocolate factory by 2022 so we can continue making chocolate at the source. Like on Madagascar.

The organic cocoa is a mix of forestero and trinitario varieties. There is interesting flavor mixed in with more of the traditional chocolate flavor we all enjoy. Its distinct and versatile flavor notes include caramel and apricot, with just a hint of floral essence.
