Description
Terroir: Soconusco, Chiapas.
Beans: Criollo Chantuto.

These beans are harvested in the south of Mexico, in Soconusco (Chiapas). That is very near to Guatemala. Soconusco is the home of the royal cocoa, which was consumed by Aztec kings and priests.
This exceptional cocoa, the local Criollo, is produced by 138 small-scale farmers who work together cooperatively and offers distinct flavours of dried fruits, nuts and spices.
Cocoa cultivation existed in southeastern Mexico well before Columbus set foot ashore. Cocoa was used by the Aztecs as a means of payment. The Criollo cocoa was cultivated by the Olmecs, Mayans, Mokayas and other peoples. In the middle of the 20th century, high yielding varieties were introduced in the region. After crossing and selecting with the already existing, indigenous trees, the cocoa trees that are cultivated today were born.
Ingredients: cocoa beans, cane sugar, cocoa butter.
May contain traces of nuts.
