Description

The organic cocoa beans used for this cocoa powder originate from the island of Madagascar. The beans, of the Trinitario variety, are grown on a plantation in the southern region of Sambirano. The plantation sprawls across approximately 2000 hectares. In 1922, when the plantation was founded, the first cocoa trees were introduced to Madagascar from the Bogor gardens  on the Indonesian island of Java. Presumably, these Trinitario trees were a crossbreed of different varieties, including Criollo. They were first introduced to farms in the east of Madagascar and later came to the Sambirano valley as it turned out that cocoa farming in the east was difficult due to frequent heavy storms.

This organic 100% Madagascar Sambirano cocoa powder is produced by Morin in their factory in Donzère, in the south of France. Roasted beans are ground and then pressed, separating cocoa butter and powder. It is a fully natural product, without any artificial flavourings or additives.

Instructions for use: Stir two teaspoons of cocoa powder into 200 ml of milk or water. Bring to the boil and stir in some sugar (to taste). Or use the powder for baking or as a topping.
