Daan Koemans traveled to Colombia with Original Beans and a group of chocolatiers and cocoa lovers. There they visited the Arhuaco: cocoa farmers and devotees since ancient times. It was an inspiring trip that showed how we, Western Europeans, can do good by doing business and buying cocoa in an ethically responsible manner.

Nature-inclusive
Some scientists believe that the Andes is the birthplace of the ancient Criollo Blanco cacao. The Arhuaco farmers are determined to preserve their ancient cacaos, since they fit perfectly with their traditional philosophy and lifestyle based on organic and forest-friendly farming. Their beliefs include a sacred responsibility to protect their world: the mountains and forests of the Andes and Amazonas. And Original Beans, through buying their cocoa beans, empowers the Arhuaco tribe to make a better living, while protecting one of the most biologically diverse rainforests on Earth.
We can rehabilitate the entire planet if we pick the right chocolate
Values and norms
ClearChox and Original Beans have a long-standing relationship. We have only been a distributor since about 2020, but long before that, we were already connected in terms of values and norms. We support Original Beans’ commitment to making truly sustainable and delicious chocolate 200%. No, more than that. They are among the pioneers in the industry: just take a look at their annual sustainability report (Chocolate Foodprint report [2024]), in which they transparently disclose the actual impact of their chocolate. Or look at their excellent score in the NGO-run Chocolate Scorecard.
Arhuaco 82%
The Arhuaco 82% bar from Original Beans has flavour notes of liquorice and sesame. It is spicy and nutty, with secondary citrus tones. It is also available as couverture. And it is certified organic like all Original Beans chocolates!
