Choba Choba is high quality farmer-owned organic chocolate, made in Switzerland from Peruvian cacao beans. The Peruvian farmers co-own the Swiss company in an innovative model ensuring the fairest possible form of cooperation in the value chain. We love it.

This organic 64% bar is made from selected cocoa beans from Choba Choba’s own farms in the Alto Huayabamba Valley in Peru. The ingredients are worked by one of the best Swiss chocolatiers to get their final form and bring out their natural flavours. It results in a dynamic sweet dark chocolate with a rich flavour profile. Some extra cocoa butter is added to the recipe to ensure the correct tongue-melting texture and super fine structure of this chocolate. (Note: adding extra cocoa butter is regularly done by chocolate makers, as most cacao beans don’t hold enough fat for our taste. But most chocolate producers are not as open about this as Choba Choba, nor of its origin. So we love that, as well).

Chocolate bar name: Each chocolate bar is named after a Choba Choba cacao farmer and co-owner of the company. This bar caries the name of Elmer.

Who is Elmer? Elmer Alaya Castillo was born in 1985 in Jaen, Cajamarca, where he spent his entire childhood until finishing primary school. He then moved to the city of Lima to continue his studies, where he completed secondary school at José Carlos Mariátegui School in San Juan de Lurigancho, Lima. After that he worked for a few years as a laborer in a company, and later he moved to the jungle, specifically to Pucallpillo, where he decided to start working as a farmer. Elmer joined Choba Choba in 2018. On his 4.5-hectare cacao plantation, he has established an exemplary work organization that enables him to achieve high yields by employing resilient and sustainable agricultural practices. He quickly became a role model for the entire community. Our 64% chocolate bar, “Elmer,” honors his work.

Flavour notes: well balanced aromas of raspberries, cranberries, black tea and pepper.
Ingredients: Organic cocoa (from Peru), Organic raw cane sugar, Organic cocoa butter (from the Dominican Republic).

Vegan and gluten-free.
