The founders of Öko Caribe, Adriano de Jesus Rodriguez and Gualberto Acebey Torrejon, have years of experience in cocoa farming. They work closely with 165 cocoa farmers from the Duarte Province. Quality is paramount, requiring close cooperation with the farmers who are trained in organic farming methods, care and processing. They can get micro-credits and sell their harvest at significantly higher prices. The cocoa grows in agroforestry-type plantations among bananas, avocados, oranges and other tropical fruits. The beans are fermented in wooden boxes, dried in the sun and picked by hand.
Gualberto and Adriano deliver exceptional beans with deep notes of cocoa and red fruit.
